The Pendulum Swings
![]()
The best part of our economy plunging into the bottom of the sea,
or what feels like the bottom of the sea,
is how growth has finally stopped
and our planet might be saved from peril
due to our greed and mindless over-consumption.
The worst part is being afraid.
The best part is paring down from that old life,
when I was a rat on a wheel,
chasing the God of money
and it's minion "stuff."
The worst part is the worry.
Will more people lose their homes?
Will more people be hungry and cold tonight?
And what of the children.
That's really the worst part.
I worry about the kids.
The best part is knowing form is changing
that systems will correct,
that feelings of fear
will turn to actions of courage,
that worry will become industry of some sort.
The worst part is that I know it's going to worse.
Some people will be acting terrible.
There will be blame and rage and harm.
We will see the worst of people.
The best part is, if history is any indicator,
is that it will get better again.
And we'll see the best of people too.
What goes up,
will go down.
What rises will fall.
In this end,
this too shall pass.
