A Post from the Coast:
The sea lies ahead and the mountains lay behind. The sky is overhead and billion of grains of sand are below. How many have sat as I now sit? How many have been at the shore, their minds reeling into the silence of such vastness?
From this place, I consider what it is I do with the teaching that is unfolding as part of my life. What is this Writing Life? What am I truly attempting to teach? The answer is as complex as the world that surrounds me, here at the sea.
But complexity is not the answer a student seeks. A student seeks the simple answer. So, I can say to the student: I teach you how to write a memoir. I will teach you how to tell the story of your life, just like I did with Blackbird, Still Waters, Show Me the Way, each of these blog posts and soon, my fourth memoir, Home. Simple. Easy. Okay.
But truly, it is not so simple or easy or okay.
The winds of this day tell me what I do, in fact, is to first ask you a question. The question is thisare you ready to stop the forward motion of your life, for a moment, in order to look back and collect the gems of wisdom of your lived experience?
Thats what I do. I help you stop the forward motion and ease you around to see where you have traveled. I point out all the wisdom you have accumulated and via the word, I show you who you are. Then, hopefully, I load up your heart with all the gems of your accomplishments and set you back on your path, so that you can forge ahead and complete what you came to this life to achieve!
Simple, easy, okay!
P.S. This is a photo from my day of contemplation, a friend runs around to beat the camera timer! He lost. I won though.
