The Mighty Columbia River

Me: Look out the window, Honey, look at the river.

Jo: Its a lot of water.

Me: It's the mouth of the MIGHTY COLUMBIA RIVER.

This is technically not true, its actually the Willamette River which is a few miles from the mouth of the mighty Columbia River. I just like to say "MIGHTY COLUMBIA RIVER, with a deep voice that holds a certain kind of announcer like-gravity. The kids indulge this "announcer thing" I do with my voice. What choice do they have really?

Jo: Your mouth is a river. We all have rivers in our mouths. Our words are the water that flow over the rocks of our teeth. We all have a lot of words, just like the river has a lot of water.

I adjust the mirror to look at this wonder-child in the back seat. Shes still looking at the MIGHTY COLUMBIA RIVER. Her blond curls are pulled back by a polka dot hair band and shes wearing a bikini top with a silky gray skirt. Around her neck is a choker she made with two purple ribbons and a butterfly pendant.

Me: I love you, Jo!

Jo: I love you too, Mom, you are my best Mom ever.

Me: You are my best daughter ever!
