You Heard it Here First

Go out, right now and buy Driving with Dead People. Better yet, get on Amazon, right now, and order it. The author, Monica Holloway is the most remarkable (and brave) writers I have had the good fortune to read in a long time.

Publishers Weekly writes: Death lurks everywhere in Holloway's childhood. A neighbor boy accidentally shoots and kills a train conductor; a little girl is mowed down by a motorist. Her father's main hobby is filming grisly car wrecks and natural disasters, and her best friend's family runs the town mortuary. Observing the dead in their coffins, Monica wonders: would she be better off in a casket than alive in her parents' home?

Monicas book, from the first page, owned me. She writes, with stunning humor, about the hard suffering of her family at the hands of a psychotic and abusive father and a mother, who by her silence, colluded with him. She also deals with the impossible subject of sexual abuse at the hands of her father, simultaneously breaking you down to tears while forcing you to laugh.

Driving is being considered by Oprah, movie deals are in the works and she will be featured on NPR next week. In my humble opinion, she is the one to watch. She gives an inspiring voice to the abused silenced by the hammer of shame. She proves, by the way she lives her life, that love saves the day and she also makes it clear that EVERYTHING can be funny!

Monica is a great woman with a great story. Go Monica, GO!
